Experiential Learning

Our Programme

The International Development Studies Experiential Learning Program was founded in 2006 to provide students with the opportunity to reflect on the global/local and theory/practice dynamics in a hands-on setting.  The International Development Studies department has adopted the term experiential learning to reflect the interconnectedness of developing academic and practical skills. Coursework is combined with volunteer placements, providing students with the academic space to critically reflect upon their experiences. The volunteer placements allow students to work with organizations in Canada or abroad. Students gain skills and experience in the fields of community development and international development. Experimental learning courses are available for both local/Canadian and international placement.

Take your education out of the classroom with experiential learning. Courses Experiential Learning Canada (INTD 3107) or Experiential Learning Abroad (INTD 3109) offer programs of work, study and travel. To learn more about the program please read the Handbook.

The instructor for INTD 3107 & INTD 3109 for the 2010-11 Academic Year will be Dr. Bob Huish.   You can reach him at huish@dal.ca  with any questions that you may have about the Experiential Learning Program.
